Steve Hall

Steve was born in Aberdeen in 1967. He works mostly in clay, producing stoneware sculptures and artifacts from his studio in Sasaig on the Isle of Skye, drawing inspiration from found metal objects on the beach on his front door and from old boats and maritime paraphernalia . Steve studied Ceramics for 3 years at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, before gaining employment as technician for contemporary designer Andy Lloyd in Edinburgh for 3 years. After working in the music business as a promoter and publicist for many years he moved to the Highlands in 1999 and worked as a deer stalker and fish farmer until setting up his studio in 2006.

The work is mostly slab built from stoneware and glazed with iron oxides. The pieces, with incorporated glass, need 3 firings; bisque, glaze and then a firing at 1000 degrees for the glass.
