Moira Ferguson

As a teacher and maker of ceramics I have explored many aspects of clay. Current work includes outdoor containers for plants and flowers and sculptural forms. Texture and shape are important to me. Texture is often applied using found objects – sea coral, bark, fossils and shells. I live on the shore of Holy Loch, surrounded by hills and forestry and ever changing skies and light, all reflecting in the tidal waters of the loch. This forms a constant source of inspiration.

I like to work quickly and rhythmically on series of shapes. I find working in slabs and clay coils complimentary to this ideal, enabling a development of form to evolve. With this current series of pieces, the lochs and glens surrounding me have been a natural starting point – from the Mountains to the Sea.
