For more than 25 years, I have spent much of my time looking at paintings, and writing about them. I studied Art History and English (and later Child Psychology) at university, and worked for many years as an editor and writer in London before moving to Scotland. I always sketched and painted, but it wasn’t until 2010 that I began to feel the need to spend more and more time painting.
I had a lovely wooden studio built in my garden on Califer Hill, overlooking Findhorn Bay and the Moray Firth. I do paint elsewhere, but this is where I do most of my work.
The view from my garden studio remains my main source of inspiration. Shifting light and changing weather transform it constantly. I love trying to capture the feel of the wind and clouds and rain sweeping across the Moray Firth, or the dazzling sunsets punctuated by the steady pulse of Tarbat Ness lighthouse.
Although I also experiment with still-life, most of my current paintings are expressive responses to the coastal landscape and dramatic skyscapes of this beautiful part of Scotland.
