My background is in graphic design but a change in direction brought me from the city to Seafield Farm, a smallholding in Achnamara, Argyll. Basketmaking is a perfect fit with all the other strands of life in a remote rural area, mixing creativity, practicality, sustainability and a love of growing things along with the time and space to grow willow and make baskets. I also teach occasional courses for small groups.
My work is functional and based on traditional weaves and styles, learned over the past 20 years, regularly attending courses with some of the finest basketmakers in Britain and Ireland. There is always more to learn.
The baskets shown combine two different forms of basketmaking. The bases of the baskets are made on a frame while the bodies of the baskets are made by traditional stake and strand construction. The colours of the baskets are completely natural and come from the different varieties of willow.
Visitors are welcome to visit my workshop but please contact me first to make sure I will be here.
