I have recently returned to art and I’m loving it more than I ever did.
I attended Edinburgh College of Art, continued onto graphic design and multimedia and then got sidetracked into computer programming and IT in various forms. (How on earth did that happen ?!?)…..
But something kept nagging within me to try art again and eventually my partner Barry bought me a starter watercolour kit for Christmas which kick started this painting hobby all over again. Tha-a-ankfully.
I grew up in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis and many of my paintings are of my beloved island. I now live in Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland with the above mentioned Barry and my 2 delights Joseph and Samuel. Many of my current paintings are of the amazing scenery and ‘urbanscapes’ from this area.
I paint mainly in watercolour and pen or alcohol inks. I think it’s the fluidity and unpredictability of these mediums that draw me to them. (And the quick take-out and ‘put-away-able-ness’ of them – very necessary with 2 kids!) And of course Im totally spoilt with the inspiring and beautiful landscapes and villages surrounding me in the Highlands and Western Isles.
I enjoy painting in a variety of styles; this allows me to express similar scenes in a very different way depending on how the scene/mood takes me. Neat, messy, fluid, structured – a style for every frame of mind.
