When seeking inspiration I don’t look much further than the Highlands. The colours, shapes, textures and patterns in the landscape and seascape change daily from soft and muted to strong and vibrant. These elements are dominant in my work. I rely mainly on memory to create the images, only occasionally referring to sketchbooks and photographs.
Searching for the fabrics, threads and dyes necessary to achieve the desired effect can be time-consuming. The direction of an individual piece determines which techniques are involved, but could include fabric painting and dyeing, collage, weaving and sometimes a combination of machine and hand embroidery.
