I was born at RAF Changi, Singapore and grew up in Easter Ross. As a small child I can remember holding an intense fascination for illustrations in books and would often enter those pages in my minds eye.
Upon leaving school I became a draughtswoman, a job which I did enjoy however I had always really wanted to be an artist so in the late 80s I went into further education to study art. I spent a year at Inverness College and then Grays School of Art and became a professional artist in 1989.
I work mainly in oils but also watercolours and ink. When I am planning out a new work I nearly always paint an experimental version first. I enjoy painting in a variety of styles, for me it keeps the work fresh, and have drawn inspiration from surrealism, Victorian/Edwardian illustration and contemporary art. My paintings generally convey feelings of contemplative peacefulness, sometimes humour and occasionally leave a question unanswered.
